Welcome to the Future Trees where you can buy a tree to help reduce the impact of climate change and to beautify Barbados.
Our aim is to encourage Barbadians and visitors to the island to leave a gift to future generations by planting a tree and to enhance the green spaces of Barbados.
The Future Trees relies on the generous support of businesses, non-governmental organizations and individuals. The Future Trees is being implemented under the umbrella of the Future Centre Trust.
Trees provide a carbon sink that neutralises carbon dioxide produced during everyday life and especially by flying to and from Barbados. For example, a return flight from London to Barbados creates 1.49 tonnes of carbon dioxide and three trees make that flight carbon neutral. A return flight from New York to Barbados creates 0.74 tonnes of carbon dioxide and two trees make that flight carbon neutral.
The trees can be purchased for US $25.00 each (fruit & shade trees) and US $50.00 each (palm trees), and they are planted in the rainy season between June and November in batches of 10 to 20.
Some trees are planted in memory of a departed loved one or to commemorate a marriage. This is the perfect way to leave a legacy and if requested we can send a personalized certificate to the person who is being honoured.
Sometimes the sponsor wants to plant his or her tree, but due to logistical issues this can only be done for groups sponsoring 25 or more trees.
The goal of The Future Trees is to help reduce the impact of climate change and to beautify Barbados, by encouraging Barbadians and visitors to leave a gift to future generations by planting a tree. The programme has planted over 3,000 trees across Barbados to date.
