A warm hello from the Future Centre Trust!

We’re hosting the upcoming National Green Knowledge Fair on 3rd and 4th November 2017.

The main goal of the fair is to share best practices and encourage consciousness towards greening Barbados.

As part of the lead up to this event, the Future Centre Trust invites members of the public to participate in our Art competition.

Participants must submit an original piece of art on one or a combination of the following topics:

  1. Public health issues
  2. Climate change
  3. Water management
  4. The value of island diversity to human livelihood

The winner of will be selected from among all eligible entries submitted by October 18th, 2017, and will be announced at the National Green Knowledge Fair on November 4th, 2017.

A prize of $4,000  will be presented to the winner of the competition.

Eligibility

  1. The competition is open to all ages.
  2. Entrants must be a Barbadian national or resident

Entry Period

The competition entry period begins September 11th, 2017 and ends on October 18th, 2017 at 4:00pm.

How to Enter

  1. To register, complete and submit the registration form here.
  2. There is no entrance fee required for this competition.
  3. Entries must abide by the full submission guidelines set out below.
  4. The submission, consisting of a 100-150 word summary and the digital art piece or a photo/copy of the physical art piece must be submitted via email to info@futurecentretrust.org
  5. Physical art pieces must also be dropped off at the Future Centre Trust office.
  6. Please ensure you send your submission from the same email address as provided on the registration form.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Submit an original piece of art on public health issues, climate change, water management, and/or the value of island diversity to human livelihood.
  2. Submissions should be in 2-dimensions.
  3. All art mediums, including digital art mediums, are allowed.
  4. Art pieces should be up to 74cm x 100cm.
  5. A copy or photo of all art pieces should be submitted electronically. Electronic submissions should be jpeg, jpg or png.
  6. All submission should be accompanied with a 100 to 150 word summary of the art piece.
  7. One entry per artist is allowed.
  8. Electronic submissions should be emailed to info@futurecentretrust.org, from the same email address as provided on the registration form.
  9. Physical art pieces must also be dropped off at the Future Centre Trust office in Edgehill, St. Thomas. Please call Katecia Thompson on 246-625-2020 (ph) or 246-836-6188 (m) in advance to co-ordinate a drop-off time (usually between 9.30 – 4.30pm Monday to Friday).
  10. Please ensure physical art pieces are clearly identified on the reverse side with your email address, as provided on the registration form, full name and telephone number.
  11. Art pieces that do not meet the aforementioned submission guidelines or October 18th, 2017 4:00pm deadline will be disqualified.

By submitting an art piece, entrants agree to allow the Future Centre Trust the right to publicize and use the art piece in outreach initiatives. All work will be given full credit to the author.

Tips

  1. Do not wait until the last minute to submit your art piece.
  2. Research the topics a bit to gain a better understanding of the options provided.
  3. Utilize the full capabilities of the medium you choose.
  4. Take advantage of the opportunity to utilize multiple topics in your art piece as long as the message is clear and concise.

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be assessed on the following criteria. All judging decisions are final.

  1. Originality
  2. Impact the work has on viewers in relation to the topic
  3. Creative expression of the topic/s
  4. Overall command of the medium being used
  5. Quality of the artistic composition and overall design, based on the theme

Have you ever looked at our environment and had an idea that would redefine the way we approach our environmental issues?

Future Centre Trust is offering the opportunity to have your ideas recognised. We invite participation in our community innovation competition in the lead-up to the National Green Knowledge Fair. All entries must reflect the following theme:

  • Connecting People to Nature: Pathways to the Green Economy

Challenge Guidelines

  1. The idea must be clear and innovative, and emphasise the theme of the competition.
  2. The idea must re-frame, reposition, or re-imagine how the issue is currently being addressed.
  3. The entry must be feasible and have a viable chance of success.
  4. It should provide approaches that can be applicable to other organisations, resulting in industry best practices.
  5. Submitters are asked to provide up to a 500 word summary of their innovative idea and how it will create impact.
  6. The summary and any accompanying photos of innovation items, diagrams, charts, manuals etc should be submitted via email to info@futurecentretrust.org, from the same email address as provided on the registration form.
  7. Finalists may be contacted and invited to present their ideas to judges at the National Green Knowledge Fair on 4th November 2017.
  8. Innovation items that do not meet the aformentioned challenge guidelines or October 18th, 2017 4:00pm deadline will be disqualified.

By submitting an idea, entrants agree to allow the Future Centre Trust the right to publicize and use the idea in outreach initiatives. All work will be given full credit to the author.
