Brownest Eye Productions

A meeting was held with Melanie Springer of Brownest Eye Productions earlier this week regarding the FCT’s inclusion in a new video series. Things are still being developed, but we look forward to working with Melanie and her team to raise the awareness of the impacts of our waste products.

Art Splash Cafe

A meeting was held today which Elayne and Billy who are the proud owners of the Art Splash Cafe, recently opening in Hastings, right across from the Band Stand. Elayne and Billy are environmentally aware and welcomed the suggestion to partner with the FCT as we enhance the environmental learning of our young people.

We look forward to developing children’s art programmes with Elayne and Billy with a focus on environment with the possibility of developing an End of Term Art Auction for students as a fund raiser for the students and the centre.

We also discussed the option of inviting the public to create a sculpture from recycled materials to be proudly displayed on their front lawn for all of the south coast traffic to see! We will keep you posted on these developments!

Adopt a Stop and Virgo Communications Bus Shelters

Adopt a Stop have kindly provided two bus shelter spaces for the use of our new livery – Stepping to a Greener Barbados. Virgo Communications, our proud partner with advertising development including this website, Clean Up Barbados website and logo development, took the suggestions of our Marketing Committee and finalised the design. I must say they look FANTASTIC!

Know where they are? First person to email us (who I know does not already know where they are through their connection with their implementation!!), will receive a Clean Up Barbados T Shirt. Let’s see how many are watching…. and visiting this site!! Offer ends March 23, 2010.

Thanks to Barney Gibbs and the team of Adopt a Stop and the team from Virgo Communications. We look forward to seeing this same livery on accompanying trash cans across Barbados and on a Transport Board bus in the coming month. We are awaiting funding for these two additions, so we will keep you posted. If you are in a position to assist in funding for these endeavours, please email us!

Improvements at The Centre

IMPROVEMENTS AT THE CENTRE

We are in an exciting period at the FCT, one with many positive improvements to the way we do business.

As many of you may be aware, the FCT board has decided to move the main resource operations of the FCT to a smaller, manageable and much more sustainable location.

This decision has not been taken lightly and is the culmination of a participatory consultation process over the past eighteen months or so since September 2008.

In May of 2009, we were very honoured to receive the participation of some 35 people with an environmentally active interest in the concept of the Future Centre at our Strategic Vision Retreat. Many of these individuals identified the need for a more virtual presence, a smaller resource base and by extension a mobile learning product, to assist in the success of the environmental education concept.

Thanks to these individuals and further consultation with our new board and committee members, we have been able to form a new Strategic Plan for the FCT (2010-2013) which includes many of the key programme areas that our supporters identified. These documents will be loaded onto this site by the end of the month. We invite you to consider these documents and share your suggestions and availability to assist where you can.

The KEY component to the success of this plan’s implementation is funding. We will be offering a membership of sorts to provide an opportunity to extend your support of the FCT through this medium. For those able to contribute to operational and/or project specific areas, we welcome your contact also. We need hands AND funds, to ensure the success of this plan for the benefit of all.

All being well, we will look to move into our new resource base location by the end of the March and anticipate much renewed interest in the whole concept. We will promoting the use of environmental principles where possible including the use of Solar PV Panels for the majority of our power supply (Thanks Andrew!).

So we will keep you posted and in the meantime welcome any questions via email. Currently we are without an Admin Assistant, however we are hopeful (Nicole is VERY hopeful) of being able to rectify this soon to assist in the day to day operations and become the bright smiling face of the FCT at our new resource centre. With levels of staffing and a change of location in mind, we appreciate your patience at this time. Best contact at this time is by email, so we look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your support during this period as we progress to a 21st century product through which we envisage changes of habits as it relates to the conservation and preservation of our resources through education.
