March 18, 2010 at 7.30pm saw the commencement of the Town Hall meeting to discuss the development application for the Chancery Lane Wetland area.
Lani Edghill has created a Facebook Page – Oppose Chancery Lane Development with links to an online petition and other relevant information. Attached here is the letter the FCT will submit to the Chief Town Planner to express our highlighted concerns (of the many impacts listed in the EIA!!) Please consider the impact of this application.

The official launch of the Green Business Programme was held at the British High Commissioners Residence on March 22 with the full support of the British High Commission and its mission staff thanks to the work of Lani Edghill during December 2009 and March 2010. Lani was employed as the Green Project Officer during this time and set about ‘greening’ the High Commission offices and Residence.
Great work was achieved with the High Commission receiving the first Green Business Barbados Award.
You can read about the programme via the Business Barbados link here: Green Business Barbados. Lani has information on the programme on the Programme Tab of this website.
One of our last tours to the current facility was taken by the community members of the Rock Dundo Community Association lead by Mr Eric Arthur at the end of March. The group were introduced to the centre through a presentation delivered by Nicole at their meeting point in Rock Dundo, St Michael last year.
Although we will be without the physicality of the display centre, we look forward to continuing to provide a service of information and outreach assistance to the public and its various community groups in the future (no pun intended!).
Also in early March, Kammie Holder, Board Director along with the assistance of Mr Tyrone Lowe and Mr Michael Thompson and the team of the NCC completed another clean up of Blackman’s gully. This clean up was assisted by two members of the B’s Recycling team prior to the Ministry of Environment Tourism in the gully walk which took place last Saturday. We appreciate the assistance of the NCC, and B’s Recycling to help keep these gully areas clean.
Copies of the 3 minute and 30 second videos produced with footage from Clean Up Barbados 2009 by Sanna Allsopp and her team of Studio Caribe TV, were delivered to the Prime Minister and his wife Mrs Mara Thompson, Lars Solderstrom of CBC, Tourism Minister Richard Sealy, Environment Minister Denis Lowe, and head of the BTA David Rice, to invite their partnership to the 2010 event.
Clean Up Barbados 2009 was a great success and the FCT looks to build on this involvement by the public in the 2010 event to be held Saturday September 18, 2010.
Ministries and organisations will be encouraged from next month to partner with this now annual event to ensure a great response! We are looking to double the 700+ participants and the 28 locations cleaned up! Get your friends, colleagues or family members together and start to think of a site you can clean up!
A meeting was held with Mr Charles Joseph of RBTT on Friday March 15 to discuss a partnership with their organisation. Nicole has delivered a partnership proposal for their organisation’s consideration.
